I've used Movable Type for a long time and I'm happy with that. Occasionally there can be some issues, but I think all blog software has that occasionally. For MT though, you typically need your own domain and hosting.
I've never used it myself, but Typepad seems very popular.(http://www.typepad.com/) I'm pretty sure there is a free trial available, might be worth trying.
I have been finding Blogger a right blogger to use but it is free, which is a big advantage. When I'm having problems loading pictures, I use Picasa, which is free from Google - http://www.picasa.com/download/index.php - easy to use and allows you to play with your pix, blog them and add text to this posting as you wish. Alternatively, I'll load a photo via Picasa and then cut and past the html from that post into the Blogger one I'm working on, then delete it. You can create tile and blend collages which can be fun, too. Well worth a look, IMHO.

Good luck, hope you find a solution! :)

Thanks Sue! I saw Picasa being used weekend before last and wondered about using it. I'll check into it!
